The Discovery Room, Lewis and Clark Meet the Salish

The Discovery Room

The Discovery room is sponsored by Rob & Terry Ryan. Lewis and Clark Meet the Salish.  The Museum is grateful for their many contributions.

This exhibit focuses on Lewis and Clark’s travels through the Bitter Root Valley in 1805 and 1806, where they encountered the Salish tribe.  The tribe was preparing to leave the Valley for their Fall bison hunt.  The Corps traded for fresh horses while Captain Lewis made a translation of their language.

This room was originally the Treasurer’s office in the Ravalli County Courthouse.
